Flap-система для зерна і легких продуктів: де проходить межа стандартного рішення?

FLAP-система

A grain terminal, grain receiving and processing facility, feed mill, or oilseed processing plant — each of these facilities typically has an area for receiving grain delivered by trucks.

One of the most effective solutions for dust control in this area remains the combination of a FLAP system and ZEO-FW aspiration filter units.

Installing a FLAP system alone can improve working conditions and reduce dust emissions by approximately 60%. For most materials, this already delivers noticeable results. However, when handling particularly lightweight and easily airborne materials, a comprehensive approach is required.

The standard ZEO-VAB design is a system of gravity-operated valves installed in the receiving hopper area. The valves open under the flow of material, allowing it to pass into the hopper, and return to their original position once the material has passed through. This allows the system to contain dust emissions within the receiving area and minimize dust escaping from the hopper.

ZEO-VAB has been successfully operating at grain handling and processing facilities for many years. This design has long proven its effectiveness in handling grain crops, and at some facilities, the system operates reliably even with protein concentrate.

Filter Unit and FLAP System

However, some materials present limitations for the standard design.

Companies often turn to Grain Capital for technical expertise when their existing aspiration or FLAP system cannot ensure stable operation with a particular material.

One such case involved a well-known Ukrainian feed manufacturer that experienced difficulties when receiving lightweight by-products from the vegetable oil processing industry.

The reason was the material's extremely low bulk density. Its weight was insufficient to ensure consistent opening of the valves.

This is a relevant challenge across the industry: when handling lightweight and fine-particle materials, we encounter systems from various manufacturers in which standard designs operate inconsistently or the valves become stuck.

To address these challenges, we developed ZEO-VAB LP (Light Products) — a multi-section FLAP system featuring specially adapted gravity-operated valves designed to handle materials with low bulk density.

What's the difference?

ZEO-VAB

  • grain and standard bulk materials;
  • can also handle processed materials if their characteristics allow the valves to open consistently;
  • a proven solution for standard receiving areas.

ZEO-VAB LP

  • materials with low bulk density;
  • the design is adapted for applications where the material's weight is insufficient to ensure stable operation of a standard FLAP system;
  • a solution for particularly lightweight and fine-particle materials.
Before launching ZEO-VAB LP, we tested the system with actual materials and different particle size fractions. The objective was to ensure the free flow of lightweight materials while maintaining the primary function of the FLAP system — minimizing dust escaping from the receiving hopper.
FLAP System

Testing is complete. The new design is now being introduced into practical operation.

If your FLAP system operates inconsistently when handling lightweight materials, this does not necessarily mean that the entire aspiration system needs to be replaced. Sometimes, the problem lies in a mismatch between the system design and the properties of the material.

Grain Capital can provide an expert assessment of your specific challenges and select a solution tailored to the material and operating conditions.
