Seasonal loads and the intricacies of grain storage installation

Active preparation of grain storages and terminals for the new harvest continues. Now there is a high load of grain storage equipment manufacturers' factories (70-80%), and specialists of the installation department are still in high demand. As the equipment has to be installed at the enterprise, and this is usually dismantling of existing equipment, installation, electrical connection and commissioning. Sometimes the design department is involved and provides technologically correct solutions and specifications for the placement of new equipment.

If we look at the work of Grain Capital's construction and installation division over the last six months, in terms of work performed, they can be conditionally divided into:

1. 35% – expansion of storage capacity and productivity of transportation and technological lines more often in order to increase the speed of transshipment of the complex and additional storage of raw materials.

5. 10% – mobile and temporary solutions: organization of alternative solutions for loading and packaging of granulated meal into bags, modern mobile belt complexes with electric connection.
6. 5% – repair and restoration of enterprises affected by military operations on the territory of Ukraine.
7. 2% – relocation of the existing enterprise from the territory of hostilities to safer ones.

Today, enterprises in the west of Ukraine, Vinnitsa region, terminals of Odessa and Izmail port are dynamically growing and strengthening their positions in the market – these are both large holdings and ambitious farms. 

Many companies offer services for the reconstruction or construction of a new grain storage. However, not all of them are equally useful and, unfortunately, the mistakes that we face monthly or hear from the customer do not change over the years. This is primarily due to the situation in the country and the inability of men to move freely in Ukraine. Therefore, when choosing an installation organization, make sure that the employees are booked, trained and will be able to finish the work on time.

Consequences of improper installation

1. Errors in the installation of steel silos: non-compliance with the sequence of installation and design solutions can lead to loss of tightness of the structure, distortion of the body due to improper assembly, destruction of tanks in the first 5 years of operation (up to 30% of cases).
2. Problems with gravity-flow equipment: rapid wear and tear, even when using quality materials, failure in the first season, product loss due to spillage.

The normal operation of a grain storage largely depends on the quality of installation work.
